AP 3D
Artist Statement
I have been studying Fine Art in school for 5 years. I have taken many classes throughout the past 4 years at Skyline High School. I have taken Beginning Photography, Jewelry, Drawing, 2D, 3D, Intermediate Drawing, Advanced 2D Design, Draw and Paint, AP 3D Design, as well as Beginning Intermediate Advanced and AP Ceramics. I love the arts for many reasons. It is a way to escape from reality and destress. It is a way of expressing myself and the challenges I have faced in life, as well as pushing my knowledge beyond what it was before. Everytime I do anything relating to art I learn something new, whether that be how to get the perfect color of paint for a project or what happens when I do something completely different from anything I've ever done before.
Sustained Investigation
Process
For this set of works, I threw a vessel on the wheel and then after it was in the leather hard stage, I put a sand textured slip in and sprinkled different mason stains on while the slip was wet. Each vessel has a different colored stain on it. I finished it with low fire clear glaze.
Finished Investigation
Selected works
For this piece, I threw a vessel on the wheel, then when it was bone dry I hand drilled holes into the side of the vessel. The vessel was finished by putting stainless steel roofing nails in their positions and firing to a mid range temperature.
I threw this vessel on the wheel, then wrapped it in coper wire. Once it was bone dry, I glazed it with a high fire glaze and fired the it.
